We Party When We Feel Good

The other day I walked quite a few blocks for the hell of it. Fog hovered over the island like a pestering in-law and it seemed like it trapped all the humidity between the earth and the sky. I started sweating a little bit, which is never fun. My shirt started sticking to my back and I just got irratated. And, as though a gift from heaven, a cool mist began falling through the fog. I walked through the water kisses towards home.

Sometimes there are moments that make all this shit bearable. They come few and far between, but they're precious when they happen. I try to hold on to these things to remember them during the less-bearable times. A lot of times rap has a similar feeling. Let's party together.

Rihanna and T.I. team up to create a pretty sweet song. You can drink, smoke, and dance to it. What else is needed?

T.I. - Life Your Life (ft. Rihanna)

Lil Wayne has been dropped and Justin Timberlake picked up on the official remix of "Can't Believe It'. I'm realling digging this.

T-Pain - Can't Believe It (Official Remix with Justin Timberlake)

Lastly I've got a track with Justin Timberlake and T. I. Here we depart from the 'how good is life' topic and it gets a littler darker, but I really like the song. Enjoy it.

Lua

From the first time I heard Bright Eyes' chilly ballad "Lua" I've been a fan. It seems that the song has become a part of my past memories and sparks nostalgia on spot. Not only is it a beautiful song, but it holds strong as a memory in the swarm of thoughts clouding my brain.

I ran across a pretty nice video on YouTube of Conor performing this song live with the Mystic Valley Band. Check it out:

You can also download a copy of the song. It's from the album "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning". The album is available on iTunes.

Emma!

Goddam! Emma Watson, my soul-mate, is dating someone. Shit. Well, I'll just have to pray they don't get engaged and woo her as quickly as possible.

Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn.

Bob knows what I'm talking about.

Bob Dylan - If You See Her Say Hello (Bootleg Series, Vol. 3)
Bob Dylan - Love Minus Zero/No Limit (Bringing It All Back Home)

Desolation Row

Bob writes well.

They're selling postcards of the hanging
They're painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
The circus is in town
Here comes the blind commissioner
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they're restless
They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
From Desolation Row

Cinderella, she seems so easy
"It takes one to know one," she smiles
And puts her hands in her back pockets
Bette Davis style
And in comes Romeo, he's moaning
"You Belong to Me I Believe"
And someone says," You're in the wrong place, my friend
You better leave"
And the only sound that's left
After the ambulances go
Is Cinderella sweeping up
On Desolation Row

Now the moon is almost hidden
The stars are beginning to hide
The fortunetelling lady
Has even taken all her things inside
All except for Cain and Abel
And the hunchback of Notre Dame
Everybody is making love
Or else expecting rain
And the Good Samaritan, he's dressing
He's getting ready for the show
He's going to the carnival tonight
On Desolation Row

Now Ophelia, she's 'neath the window
For her I feel so afraid
On her twenty-second birthday
She already is an old maid

To her, death is quite romantic
She wears an iron vest
Her profession's her religion
Her sin is her lifelessness
And though her eyes are fixed upon
Noah's great rainbow
She spends her time peeking
Into Desolation Row

Einstein, disguised as Robin Hood
With his memories in a trunk
Passed this way an hour ago
With his friend, a jealous monk
He looked so immaculately frightful
As he bummed a cigarette
Then he went off sniffing drainpipes
And reciting the alphabet
Now you would not think to look at him
But he was famous long ago
For playing the electric violin
On Desolation Row

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world
Inside of a leather cup
But all his sexless patients
They're trying to blow it up
Now his nurse, some local loser
She's in charge of the cyanide hole
And she also keeps the cards that read
"Have Mercy on His Soul"
They all play on penny whistles
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From Desolation Row

Across the street they've nailed the curtains
They're getting ready for the feast
The Phantom of the Opera
A perfect image of a priest
They're spoonfeeding Casanova
To get him to feel more assured
Then they'll kill him with self-confidence
After poisoning him with words

And the Phantom's shouting to skinny girls
"Get Outa Here If You Don't Know
Casanova is just being punished for going
To Desolation Row"

Now at midnight all the agents
And the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone
That knows more than they do
Then they bring them to the factory
Where the heart-attack machine
Is strapped across their shoulders
And then the kerosene
Is brought down from the castles
By insurance men who go
Check to see that nobody is escaping
To Desolation Row

Praise be to Nero's Neptune
The Titanic sails at dawn
And everybody's shouting
"Which Side Are You On?"
And Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot
Fighting in the captain's tower
While calypso singers laugh at them
And fishermen hold flowers
Between the windows of the sea
Where lovely mermaids flow
And nobody has to think too much
About Desolation Row

Yes, I received your letter yesterday
(About the time the door knob broke)
When you asked how I was doing
Was that some kind of joke?
All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they're quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name
Right now I can't read too good
Don't send me no more letters no
Not unless you mail them

A New Day

It is a new day. Who would have thought the United States of America would elect a black President? We're all a part of history. Whether you voted for John, Bob, or Barack, whether you hate the democratic party or embrace them, we are all a part of history.

I know I'm not saying anything any different than the talking heads on news channels, but I felt that I had to say something. Take a look at these political cartoons celebrating the victory. (Thanks About.com)

Let's move on.

I haven't posted any music in a while. I figured I'd put together a little "Victory" playlist.

Ace of Base - It's A Beautiful Life

Now, this isn't really my type of music. But, it's got a celebratory vibe to it, so why not?

Akon (ft. Obie Trice) - Look At Me Now (Remix)

A few years ago Barack Obama was a lowly community organizer. Look at him now.

The Beatles - Getting Better

The title really just says it all.

Bright Eyes - Road To Joy (Live)

This is a recording off of Bright Eyes live album, Motion Sickness.

Bob Dylan - Lay Down Your Weary Tune

Lay down that weary tune, friend. Help is coming

Kanye West - I Wonder

We'll end on this one. And we'll end on a toast. I wonder, are you chasing your dream? Chase it. And feel the fulfillment when you get there.

Beauty

I admire beautiful things. I love women. I enjoy a sweet smile from a southern belle. I love long, lean, tan legs. I obsess about that small indention in that lower back. I love big, bright eyes. Can I say that? Then, let's celebrate. To women and the beauty that encompasses them.

Tomorrow

I can't believe that the election is tomorrow. Finally. I've been involved with the Obama campaign as a volunteer for a little over a year. I'm glad I spent my time doing something worthwhile, but I am ready for this whole circus to be over.

Tomorrow that happens. That is, if we don't see another Ohio/Florida shit.

Who are you going to vote for? I'm not going to try to argue either way. I'm just going to tell you: Vote for Barack Obama.

I'm begging you. Please don't let John McCain win. This country is nearly unbearable as it is. I can't imagine a regime run by another George Bush with a worse temper. (Thanks Hayden).

So, I've decided to post a few pictures, some good videos, and of course music. All in the celebration of a assured victory (fingers crossed) tomorrow.

McCain kind of just forgets what's going on. It's hilarious:

Farewell Joaquin

So I just heard the news today that Joaquin Phoenix has officially announced he is retiring from acting. Damn. I really like Joaquin. Apparently, he's pursuing a career in music which I'll keep an eye on with a little enthusiasm.

Luckily, Joaquin is staying fucked up. If you can't tell from these pictures you have to be blind.

Good for you, Joaquin. I know it feels good to get fucked up. Keep doing it. Good luck.

Dear Jessica

Dear Jessica,

I know you have a lot of men groveling at your perfectly shaped body. I know Tony Romo is your boo. But Jessica, Tony Romo ain't got shit on me.

I promise I could treat you better. I don't make as much money. But, you're rich. You don't need to have a rich boyfriend, you need someone you can take care of. You need a man you can lavish and love with all your heart. You want someone who you can spoil. You need a man who has simple tastes and loves well.

Jessica, I'm drinking brandy. Do you like Brandy? I don't like your music. Does Tony tell you he does? He's fucking lying. Do you want a man who lies to you? If he lies about liking your music, maybe he's lying to you about liking you at all. Maybe he hates you. It's just something to think about.

I love you. There, I said it. And, it's true love. It's not that bullshit that is based on commitment, personality, commonalities, and general things that are not unique. It is a love based on my fascination with your entire body. Mmmmmm..

Call me.

Let's Celebrate

Tonight, let's drink.

I'd like to propose a toast!

To celebrating. Simply celebrating. Life can be a shit can and it can be cold. But there are certain things we find in friends, brothers - by blood and memories, intriguing strangers, paintings, music, women, never ending streams, oasis-like ponds, and other hidden treasures. Tonight, we drink to all those things that can at least remind us that it's not all shit.

Here to help us celebrate:

AA Bondy - American Hearts

AA Bondy can rip a mean riff on his guitar and harmonica while belting out lyrics that are ripe with meaning. This is a great song.

Band of Horses - No One's Gonna Love You

Band of Horses came out with this new album last year. Ben Bridwell's vocals are haunting whether he's singing about a funeral or a girl he is confident that no one can love as well as him.

Mazzy Star - Asleep From Day (With the Chemical Brothers)

I love the music that lingers in the background as Mazzy Star recites such colorful lyrics.

The Beatles - Yer Blues

The Beatles - Oh Darlin

The Beatles are always good. Here are a couple of good songs. Oh Darlin is a classic. Yer Blues is a fantastic, little bit harder, blues song. Check them out.

Counting Crows - When I Dream of Michelangelo

I haven't heard anything from Counting Crows in a while. While I don't like everything that Counting Crows does, I do enjoy their slower and less musical my lyrically driven songs. This ones good.

Cheers!
